I want to work in the field of Economic Development? How can I do this?

Right now I am a undergraduate majoring in Economics with minors in Political Science and Urban Planning. I have taken a graduate level course in Economic Development, and I am did pretty well in it. How can I get my foot in the door and gain experience in the field of Economic Development. Would I contact government agencies, or something?

1. Economic development is such a wide field. You can choose to work for: - the government (e.g. Department of Commerce such as Bureau of Economic Analysis) - multilateral and bilateral organizations such as World Bank, United Nations Development Bank, and USAID - think tanks and policy development organizations such as RAND, The Heritage Foundation, Brookings Institution - economic planning departments of private organizations such as banks, financial institutions, etc Typically you start in the position of Research Assistant. However, if you will work for multilateral organizations such as World Bank or UNDP, you will need at least a masters degree or higher to get the best positions. Unlike private companies, your performance alone can help you move upwards in the corporate ladder, but in organizations such as IMF, UNDP or World Bank, it is incredibly hard to move from one different level to another unless you have advanced degrees
